Mary Folschi was born 24 Jan 1914 to Ernst and Elizabeth Folschi in Keyport, New Jersey. When she was 4 years old when her father died. When her father died, her mother had to give the kids up for adoption. There were a total of five children with Mary being the youngest. She was adopted by a loving family by the name of John and Rebecca Woolley and she was moved to Long Branch, New Jersey. She grew up there and in the 1920 and 1930 US Federal Census she lived at 195 Seventh Ave Long Branch, New Jersey. She married Harry Olson by 1931 and they had two children by 1940 Marion b. and Alice Olson. According to the 1940 US Federal Census they lived in Long Branch in 1935 and in Henderson, North Carolina in 1940. In 1993 (US Public Records Index Volume 1) Marion was living at 247 Teakwood Dr. Bayville, NJ 08721-322. She died on 29 November 2013 at 99 years old, less than one month shy of 100 years. Her last known address was in Bayville, NJ. There is a plot for her in the Glenwood Cemetery although as of March 2014 she was not buried there (per a relative of hers.)

#52 Ancestors - Week #8 - Henrietta "Nettie" Marquart Grube Jacobs

When Henrietta "Nettie" Marguart Grube was born in July 1861 in Kingston, New York, to Carl Marquard and Sophia Gerht. I am unclear as to what happened to her father. She has a brother by the name of William Marquard. She was born in Kingston, Ulster, New York, United States and lived there in Kingston Ward 07, Ulster, New York, USA in 1875, 1880, 1889, 1892 and moved to Manhattan about 1900.  In the 1875 census she was named as step daughter to Frederick Grube as Nettie Marguart.

She married William Jacobs in 1896. They had two children during their marriage. She died about 1919 in New York, at the age of 57.

I have found her in all of these Census. She was married in 1896, however, her first son was born in 1894. I can't find her any earlier than that and I haven't been able to find when she died. 

I am trying to find earlier census with her in it and when she died.

#52 Ancestors - Week #7 - Edith A. Weber

Edith A. Weber was my great grandaunt who was born on the 19 Dec 1899  in Jersey City, New Jersey to Frederick Herman Weber and Harriet "Kate" Stone(s). At age 1 she lived in Jersey City Ward 10, Hudson County, New Jersey with her parents (Source: 1900 US Census) By 1910 her father Fred has passed away and her mother Kate had remarried to Daniel Miler b.about 1854. Which for a long time was a mystery as to where he went. At age 11 in 1910 she, her siblings and her mother had moved to Jersey City Ward 12, Hudson, New Jersey. where she is listed as a step-daughter on the 1910 Census. (source: 1910 US Census).
 Her siblings were Edgar Charles Weber, William C. Weber, John Albert Weber, and Harry Miller and Evelyn Miller. 
In 1920 Edith lived with her mom and step-father in Jersey City Ward 6, Hudson, New Jersey.

 After this point I have lost her. I am not sure if she married or passed away.

#52 Ancestors - Week #6 - Ernest Folscher

The rest of the posts I am doing are of people whom I may not have all the information for. As I obtain more information I will update them.

Ernest Folscher born . between 1877 and 1879 in Germany to Andrew and Henrietta Folscher.(source:Virginia Select Marriages, 1785-1940)  Immigrated to the United States in 1900 (source 1910 United States Census). He was a fisherman by trade and spent a lot of time at sea. He married Elizabeth Elsie Clause in 1903 (source 1910 United States Census) in King William, Virginia (source:Virginia Select Marriages, 1785-1940). They had five children, four girls, Elsie, Emma, Meta, Mary and one boy, Fred.  With Ernest traveling so much, it has been difficult to track him appropriately. I have him entering the U.S. via Canada in 1912, hitting the shore of California in 1906, and 1908. I was recently informed by a distant cousin that he died at sea, leaving the family with no father, causing his children to be adopted out.

Here is unverified information found... I am pretty sure Ernest was Ernest Folscher. I was informed* not officially* he was born 17 Jul 1879 in Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany. I have him dying on a German u-boat 7 Oct 1917 in Terschelling, Friesland, Netherlands.

#52 Ancestors - Week #5 - Ronald Damien Peterson

Ronald Damien Peterson was born 14 Sept 1976 in Staten Island, Richmond, New York. He was my brother. I will not post his parental line because they are still living. However, our family misses him very much. I wanted to do the Ancestry posting so he is not forgotten in generations to come. He died on 12 July 2002 on the way home from work. He was 26 years old. I have posted his obituary below.  He was engaged twice in his life and had no children.  He grew up in New Jersey and lived in West Palm Beach, Florida for his high school years. In 2000, he moved back to New Jersey and was planning to marry  two weeks after his death.
Over the years, Ronnie (as I always called him) struggled with alcohol but made a way to create harmony in our family. He was a great son, brother and friend. He lived in Cliffwood Beach, Long Branch, and Ocean, NJ as a child before moving to Florida for his high school years.  He liked playing sports and women as all young men do. I remember a time when we were little living in Cliffwood Beach and we were playing 'king of the hill" and all the girls pretended to run from him but were easily caught to get a chance to kiss him.

#52 Ancestors - Week #4 - Emma Folscher Jacobs

Emma Folscher Jacobs

 Emma Folscher, b. 2 February 1905 in Monmouth County, New Jersey to Ernest Folscher and Elizabeth Elsie Close Folscher (still researching her). She was one of five children. She grew up in Rural Monmouth County.

In 1927 at the age of 23 she married Fredrick Jacobs.  In 1928 they had their first son Frederick Jacobs (week #1 Ancestor). In 1930 they were still living in Brooklyn, NY(source: 1930 Census). In 1935 they had their second son Russell Jacobs and were living in Babylon, NY. (source: 1940 Census). They lived there in 1940 and in 1941 their third son Ernest R. Jacobs was born. Fredrick died on 10 Oct 1924 in Babylon, NY and is buried at the Long Island National Cemetery.  Once her husband died and was buried, her eldest son worked and did his best to keep the family together. However, she was unable to cope with the loss of her husband and her mother. She had an infant of only a year old and a five year old son and her thirteen year old son at this point, she was institutionalized. She stayed in this facility until her death on 6 October 1995. She is buried in Van Liew Cemetery in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

#52 Ancestors -Week #3- Fredrick Jacobs

I am probably most excited about this ancestor. He was elusive for a very long time and part of "family folklore" but here goes.
Fredrick Jacobs, father, son, grandfather not so much.
Fredrick was born on 21 July 1894 to William and Nettie(might not be Nettie still searching there) Jacobs, in Manhattan, New York.  As far as I can tell he had one brother, William H. Jacobs. His father didn't live to be very old and died about 1912 at age 52. They lived in Manhattan until he was 16 (source 1900 & 1910 Us Census). In 1915 they moved to Brooklyn, NY where he enlisted in the Army in 1918. (sources 1915 NY Census & New York, Abstracts of World War I Military Service, 1917-1919 Record.) He was overseas for a few months and then was discharged in 1919. In 1920, he moved to Brooklyn, NY and he was 20 years old. In 1927 at the age of 33 he married Emma Folsche, b. 2 February 1905 in Monmouth County, New Jersey.  In 1928 they had their first son Frederick Jacobs (week #1 Ancestor). In 1930 they were still living in Brooklyn, NY(source: 1930 Census). In 1935 they had their second son Russell Jacobs and were living in Babylon, NY. (source: 1940 Census). They lived there in 1940 and in 1941 their third son Ernest R. Jacobs was born. Fredrick died on 10 Oct 1924 in Babylon, NY and is buried at the Long Island National Cemetery.
I do have pictures of Fred, lots of them thanks to a cousin. He had three boys, only one truly got to know him and his death caused not only pain for the grieving family but a lifetime of loss for so many. As the saying goes in our family, the men don't live long but the women live forever. I am hoping to obtain the death certificate soon to find the cause of death. All three of his sons are gone now. Their wives are still here, and all of them are sorely missed.

#52 Ancestors -Week #2- William Weber

William Charles Weber was my great grandfather who was born on 22 Jul 1894 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Frederick Herman Weber and Harriet "Kate" Stone(s). At age 6 he lived in Jersey City Ward 10, Hudson County, New Jersey with his parents (Source: 1900 US Census) By 1910 his father Fred has passed away and his mother Kate had remarried to Daniel Miler b.about 1854. Which for a long time was a mystery as to where he went. At age 16 in 1910 he, his siblings and his mother had moved to Jersey City Ward 12, Jersey City, New Jersey. where his is listed as a step-son on the 1910 Census. (source: 1910 US Census).

In 1912 he married Elizabeth Sullivan, he was  20 and she was 17. By 1920 they were living in Jersey City, New Jersey in the 5th Ward (Source:1920 Census) with their daughter Harriet who was 6 at the time. William Weber was 25 and Elizabeth was 24. They were living with her brother Leo Sullivan 23 and her step brother James Whalen 46. They lived in Jersey City until approximately 1942 when Elizabeth died. They had one child a year but only two survived. Harriet and Elizabeth Frances. When Elizabeth Frances was 13 in 1942  prior to her 14th birthday her mother passed away.  I was told at some point before I was born, both sisters, their father and their families all lived in the same house on Parva Pl in Cliffwood Beach. 

William Weber was 69 when he passed away on  7 Sep 1963 in Keyport, New Jersey.

WILLIAM C. WEBER CLIFFWOOD BEACH - William C. Weber, 69, of 160 Parva PI., died suddenly at his home Saturday. Born in Jersey City, he was the son of the late Frederick and Kate Stone Weber. His wife was the late Elizabeth Sullivan Weber. A longshoreman, he was member of Local 306, Hoboken. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George Brooksbank arid Mrs. Frederick Jacobs of Cliffwood Beach; three brothers, Edgar and John Weber of Jersey City and Harry Miller of Rutherford; one sister, Miss Evelyn Miller, Jersey City, and five grandchildren. Services are under the direction of. the Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Webber Mystery

Neat little mystery: Richard and Louisa are my 3rd great grandparents on my mother's side. I am trying to figure out why all of these people would be in the same house? Are they related?

#52 Ancestors - Week #1 Frederick Richard Jacobs

Frederick Richard Jacobs was born 30 Jun 1928 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York. His social security number was 080-xx-xxx2. Born to Fredrick Jacobs and Emma Folscher who were married 20 Sept 1927, he was the oldest of three boys. His brother's were Russell Charles Jacobs b. 20 March 1935 and Ernest Robert Jacobs b. 15 Sept 1941. At age 2 he lived in Brooklyn, New York (source:1930 United States Federal Census). At age 7 & 11 he lived in Babylon, New York (source: 1940 United States Federal Census).
As the story goes, he would go to the Cliffwood Beach Pool each summer in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey and there he met his future wife Elizabeth F. Weber b. 17 May 1926.  Their first date was walking around the beer factory in Jersey City, NJ and he was so much taller than her that he was walking and left her in the dust. They were married on 17 July 1955 (sorce: Elizabeth "Betty" F. Jacobs obituary). They had three girls. Prior to his death 24 July 1984, he was a jazz musician by night playing the drums and a fork lift operator by day. He was an amazing grandfather to three grandchildren and terrific father to his daughters. His obituary, posted in the Red Bank Registar on 25 July 1984 reads as follows:

Frederick R. Jacobs

ABERDEEN -Frederick Richard Jacobs. 56. of Parva Place, died yesterday at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn. N Y  he resided in Woodbridge until moving here 26 years ago. Before retiring in 1981. Mr. Jacobs was a forklift operator at Bird and Son Roofing Materials, Perth Amboy. For 35 years He was a member of Musician's Local 373. Woodbridge. and a US Army veteran of the Korean War

Surviving are his wife. Elizabeth Weber Jacobs, his mother, Mrs. Emma Jacobs of Perth Amboy three daughters Mary Beth Peterson and Debra Jacobs, both here and Kathleen Jacobs of Stockton. Calif, two brothers, Ernest of South Bound Brook, and Russell of California; and three grandchildren. The Day Funeral Home inKeyport, is in charge of arrangements.

On a personal note: I remember Grandpa Jacobs driving Grandma to work at the Revlon factory with the three of us grand-kids in the back seat and we would practice reading signs and counting in our terrible Spanish. 

One time he went to my house to find my bathing suit so I could go swimming at the babysitters house. 

My first word was french fry because Grandpa would always steal them from me.
